Endodontics is a field in dentistry that deals with root canal procedures in cases where the canal has been pathologically altered. A bacterial infection caused by a cavity, or other factors, can necessitate treatment. The tooth can show symptoms of the disease, but it can also be asymptomatic, meaning that a patient could lose a tooth and have the surrounding tissue destroyed.
